Hot and Not Bothered

hotnotbothered

A group of Year 11 students recently took part in an initiative during their PE lessons, which was set up through a group called “Hot and Not Bothered”, who are funded by Sport England.

The students had to complete six weeks of activity with an outside instructor. The activities varied form Yoga to Insanity Workouts designed to encourage young girls to be more active and show them a variety of different ways in which they could do this. If students were able to complete five out of six sessions with a positive attitude, they received a FITBIT and a “Hot and Not Bothered!” t-shirt to encourage them to stay active in the future.

As the photo shows, fun was had by all.

Oom-pah-pah, oom-pah-pah, THAT’S HOW IT GOES!...

image001It certainly does - and what a week!   We are so proud of our fantastic cast and crew who performed to sell out audiences in the classic family production of ‘Oliver!’

Huge congratulations to everyone involved – it really was great to see so many students of so many ages taking part showcasing their talent, enthusiasm and enjoyment of being on stage.

Thank you to everyone who supported the show – we have loved receiving your messages and we are really glad you enjoyed it and are looking forward to seeing you back at The Venue again soon.

Take a peek at this fascinating video created by our lighting operator, Jacob Grace – capturing the show from behind the scenes…

Brooklands Campus

IMG 0022Monday 31st October 2016 will remain a date of huge significance in the history of Walton High; the Brooklands Campus opened its doors for the first time to students. This £25million state of the art learning environment was finally ready to be occupied by its first cohort of Years 7-9. What had originally been planned as a six week summer holiday of unloading, unpacking and assembling had to be condensed into the October half term. Thanks to an enormous effort by staff and Walton High’s Post-16 students, everything was ready in time.

Although only 3 months have passed, the impact of the high quality education provided is already evident. Everyone has settled in well and the most is being made of the opportunities afforded by the excellent facilities.

Milton Keynes Recycling Centre YE

On 3 January Team Fusion takes their plan into action and visits Milton Keynes Recycling centre.

Our young enterprise team took off on a trip down to Milton Keynes Recycling Centre. We took off time on our INSET day as we eagerly wanted to learn more about the recycling production. During the afternoon we discovered more about where our rubbish goes and how it gets separated.

Sarah, who is a part of the Milton Keynes Council, took us around the building and explained in depth about what impacts recycling has on our daily lives; how much food is thrown away on an average and how much food waste and recycled materials gets taken to the centre.

Prefect Charity Quiz Night

Final Round 7On Friday 13 January Post 16 Prefects hosted a charity quiz night in the Lower Café in support of CLIC Sargent, a cancer charity that has a personal significance to one of our prefects. Seventeen staff and student teams such as ‘Quizzee Rascals’ and ‘We Write Your References’ all competed to win the grand prize of the quiz cup, along with some Hotel Chocolat gift boxes. There were nine rounds in total, ranging from general knowledge, pop culture and a ‘can you feel it’ round where teams had to identify ten items in a sealed envelope.
