Laura Bassett visits Walton High and JD Centre:MK in Milton Keynes.

England v Austria

Walton High students were very fortunate to receive a visit from England and Notts County Captain Laura Bassett before the Easter break. Laura was in Milton Keynes as England Ladies faced Austria at MK Dons’ Stadium MK on the 10th April, a game they won 3-0.

Laura helped to lead a coaching session alongside our own keen footballer Miss South. The students included members of the U13’s team, who this season won the local round of the EFL girls cup and then represented the MK Dons in getting to the quarter finals of the Regional EFL Girls Cup. She then answered questions from the girls and made time for photographs and autograph signing.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at both Rock Challenge at the Milton Keynes Theatre and Spring @TheVenue: Goes to the Movies at the end of last term.

Once again we are so proud of the number of students who participate in these performances and are always delighted to see the confidence, enthusiasm and talent of our young people.

At Rock Challenge students and staff were inspired by a number of the entries and how every school explored Dance and Performance in a variety of ways.   The support and camaraderie between the competing schools really was excellent and embodied the spirit of the Be Your Best Foundation.  We are excited to start preparing next year’s entry.  Students were thrilled to win three awards: these were for  Concept;  Entertainment;   and Costuming Character and once again would like to congratulate everyone involved.

Ex-student, Carrie Mancini, signs for West Ham Ladies

cmanciniAfter completing her GCSEs at Walton High in June last year, Carrie Mancini was offered a place at the EDSV Football Academy at Oaklands College in St Albans.

Carrie is a residential student at the college Monday to Friday and comes home to Milton Keynes at weekends where she has continued to play for Woburn & Wavendon Ladies. As captain, Carrie has led the team to top of the league, unbeaten so far this season.

She has trained hard with the Academy, alongside studying for a Level 3 National Diploma in Sports Development Coaching and Fitness.

Carrie and her EDSV team mates have just been crowned League Champions of the Category 1 College League.

It is now time for Carrie to move onwards and upwards; she has been offered a place with West Ham Ladies, where she is training twice a week and played her debut match on Sunday 19 March 2017.

Carrie will continue with EDSV and her studies at Oaklands College next year with her ultimate aim of becoming a professional footballer in the UK or in the USA.

Well done Carrie; we are following your career with interest.
