Over summer three current Yr 13 students were successful in being accepted onto the Nuffield Bursary programme. This prestigious scheme allowed Harriet Venters, Joshua Tuffnell and Chieun Han to undertake several weeks of funded academic research projects in conjunction with The Open University. The projects were supervised by OU researchers and represented a diverse range of scientific disciplines. Chieun investigated the behaviour of rats and its implications for ADHD. Joshua's work focused on immunological responses in mammals. Harriet concentrated on identification methods for organic compounds in water, rocks and soil.
Each student produced a full scientific report of their research, display material and it is possible some of the work will be published in scientific journals. Additionally, Chieun and Joshua were able to present their findings at a celebration event held at the University of Hertfordshire on the 6th of November 2012. All students were successful in achieving a British Science Association Gold CREST award which nationally recognises their outstanding contribution to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
