Music
Curriculum Intent
Music plays a vital role in enriching our lives. In the music curriculum, we strive to create a welcoming environment where all students feel they belong. We provide opportunities for every learner to learn about and enjoy music in its many forms. Our teaching supports students of all ages and abilities – challenging gifted musicians while encouraging those who may not yet see themselves as musically inclined. By giving equal value to a wide range of musical styles and traditions, we aim to broaden students’ horizons and inspire them to achieve their full potential through music.
We will explore, listen to, analyse, and assess music from various historical periods, genres, styles, and cultural traditions, including the works of renowned composers and musicians. Students will develop vocal skills through singing, engage in music creation and composition both individually and collaboratively, gain the chance to learn a musical instrument, appropriately use music technology, and have opportunities to advance in musical ability. They will also gain an understanding of how music is composed, produced, and conveyed, with a focus on key musical elements such as pitch, duration, tempo, timbre, texture, structure, and the use of standard musical notation.
