cook18 191The excitement has been building up since the beginning of the week for the first ‘Great Brooklands Christmas Bake Off!’

The students who were lucky enough to get chosen to participate gathered in the food room after school with their bags of ingredients.  There was mild hysteria in the air as icing, food colouring and glitter spray were unpacked.  The group of keen chefs had until 4.30pm to create their Christmas delights.  It was impressive to see the focus and determination on their faces.

As the 5 minute warning bell was called, the chefs busily ensured that their festive bake was displayed for the judges to taste.  Cakes were marked on taste, texture, appearance and theme.  The fortunate judges deliberated after sampling 16 cakes and finally decided on a winner and runner up from each year group.

The winners were:  Year 7: Hannah and Fatema

                                  Runners up: Erin and Paige

                                  Year 8: Gemma and Kanika

                                  Runner up: Millie

The students gave themselves a big cheer at the end; it was a fantastic achievement for all involved!

Cucina are serving Christmas lunch from Monday 17 to Thursday 20 December.  Lunch is £3.50, a little more than usual as they receive extras such as a Christmas cracker.  Some students have a limit for lunch of £3.00 so this will need to be increased by contacting our Finance department if you wish your child to receive the full Christmas Lunch.

Students who are entitled to free school meals will automatically have their balance increased.
