nw3As part of ‘Tomorrow’s Engineers week,’ graduates from Network Rail were invited to Walton High to run a series of challenges and activities for fifty Year 9 students from both campuses, on consecutive days.

The days included enlightening presentations, a bridge building activity, a planning activity and a LEGO challenge where the students had to build an automated level crossing barrier. The enthusiasm, engagement and the differing ways students solved the problems on the day was amazing.

Students were randomly divided into teams and showed great teamwork and cooperation. Feedback from students showed they immensely enjoyed the activities

Twelve students (six from each campus,) who particularly impressed on the day have now been selected by Network Rail to be invited to their Head Office. They will receive a tour of the building and facilities, hear from representatives from a variety of roles and be asked to take part in further challenges relating to engineering!
